Zane Jacob Yoder, 92, of Hubbard, died May 29, 2012.He was born on October 20, 1919, the second child of William "Bill" and Bessie Oswalt Yoder's five children.The Yoder's lived on a farm in Elliot Prairie school district,, between Barlow and Meridian Roads in the Whiskey Hill area southeast of Hubbard, OR. Zane graduatedfrom Canby High School in 1938.During WWII, he joined the Army, and served in Pacific theater, primarily New Guinea and the Philippines.After the war, Zane bought timberland in the Colton area and started a one-man sawmill operation, Rock Creek Lumber Co. He kept the mill in operation through the 70's, having it set up on the home property, but derived his main income from work in larger local sawmills. He retired from millwork in 1982.He married Vera Kocher on Aug.1, 1952.They had two children, Joyce and Alan , and built a home on 40 acres of the Yoder family property, residing there from early 1956 until Aug. of 1990 when they moved to Senior Estates in Woodburn. For the past two and one-half years he has lived back on the home property with Joyce's family.Zane and Vera attended Hubbard Community Church for many years. Zane's passions were reading, bowling, and working in the woods, all of which he continued until the time of death. In his retirement years, Zane volunteer many hours to the Aurora Colony Historical Society's Living History program at the Stauffer-Will Farm. He also volunteered countless hours maintaining the Hubbard Cemetery grounds. He is survived by son; Alan of Beaverton, daughter Joyce Holmes of Hubbard, brother Gerald Yoder, sisters; Pearl Bacon and Rosina Clifford, 8 grandchildrenVera preceded him in death in 2009.A Memorial Service will be held Sat. June 23, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Cornwell Colonial Chapel- Woodburn.
