William Merrill Hardy was born on 6/14/1928 in Sinking Valley, PA to William and Elizabeth Hardy, the youngest of seven children. He is survived by his brother Paul Hardy of Sinking Valley, PA and son David Hardy of West Linn, OR. Bill worked as Journeyman Plasterer on the East coast and maintained a farm then moved to Oregon in 1958 and continued plastering and Sheetrock work. Bill met Ethel Naomi Winther in 1960 and they were married in May 1962. Bill and Ethel adopted their son David in 1969 and Bill began his next carrier as a Building Engineer for the Lake Oswego School district until he retired. Prior to his retirement he began raising hogs with his son and later switched to raising beef. He raised livestock and kept a working farm until his final weeks. Bill had a very strong Christian faith and love of God and shared his faith with many. He also loved animals, especially those at risk such as abused animals and the Kiger mustangs of SE Oregon. He enjoyed talking about family, rare livestock breeds, gardening and farming. He was especially known for his skill at growing tomatoes. In his mid seventies Bill took up motorcycling after a 40-year hiatus and loved to tour the Western states and took a cross country trip to Pennsylvania by bike with his son. Bill was a life-long learner and curious by nature. He was a faithful contributor to many charities including the Oregon Humane Society, Oregon Right to Life, and the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy. He will be greatly missed by his neighbors, friends, and family
