Obituary

Will Lester Senders MD1926-2013Will Senders died this past Thursday morning at his Spring Ridge Court home in Wilsonville.Will was born in 1926 to Albert "Sandy" and Catherine Senders in their home in Dallas, OR. Hegrew up in Albany and graduated valedictorian from Albany High School at the age of 16.A loyal Beaver fan, Will attended Oregon State before joining a select WWII Naval physiciantraining program. He transferred to and graduated from Willamette University where he met hislifelong love, Gloria Harrington. After graduating second in his class from Oregon HealthSciences University, he moved away from his sweetheart to begin a medical internship inDetroit. "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" proved true for Will. He proposed by phone,and they eloped.Will served in the Korean War on the front lines as a Marine doctor. After the war, he continuedhis medical training at the Mayo Clinic. He returned to Oregon and joined the Broadway MedicalClinic where he worked for over forty years. Respected by his peers and beloved by his patients,he was an active leader in the medical community and served as Chief of Staff at EmmanuelHospital as well as a volunteer faculty member at Oregon Health & Science University.Will and Gloria had a loving marriage that lasted 57 years. They were passionate and talentedballroom dancers, bridge players, and world travelers. Will remained a devoted spouse duringGloria's later years through her passing in 2008.Will was a dedicated father to their three children: Craig, Rob, and Kathy Scherer. Their busyfamily life included vacations at the beach and the mountains, weekends at Sunriver, days on theriver in the family boat, and frequent ski excursions to Mt. Hood. Will's love of family extendedto his seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Always a great listener, "Granddad" wasinterested in every detail of his family's life.Will was a member of Mountain Park Church and later Lake Grove Presbyterian. His Christianfaith was very important to him and his life reflected Christ's love in how he treated others. TheSenders home was open to all; Will was regarded as a second father by many of his children'sfriends. Will was a true gentleman and he will be remembered as a kind, respectful and generousman by all who knew him.Come celebrate Will's amazing life at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, August 14 at Lake GrovePresbyterian Church at 4040 Sunset Drive, Lake Oswego.Donations may be made to Lake Grove Presbyterian Church or the UC Davis Cleft andCraniofacial Team.
