Warren Chester McGriff, 98, died peacefully Nov. 29, 2018 at The Oasis in Worcester Ma.. Warren was born Oct. 26, 1920 in Bemidji Minnesota. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force in Oct of 1939. Warren flew 42 missions as a Gunner Staff Sargent in a B-17 (Flying Fortress). Most of his combat missions were over Austria, Germany, Italy and the Balkans. His decorations are numerous including: 4 Bronze Battle Stars, EAME Theatre Ribbon, American Defensive Ribbon among others.... He was a Hero. Discharged in Portland, Ore he soon met his loving wife Gwen.
Warren and Gwen were married in 1946 until she passed in Sept of 2012. Together they enjoyed years of adventures from being Dance Instructors on Cruise Ships, Managing a Bowling Alley, Car Lots and Raising a Family.
He is survived by brother Hershel (Sherrie) McGriff. His sons Stan (Lisa) and Tom (Michele) McGriff. 9 Grandchildren: Zed (Kris) McGriff, Leilani (Sean) Langer, Malia (Martin) Clancy, Sean (Kathryn) McGriff, Nicholas McGriff, Stanley C. McGriff, Jake McGriff, Ashley (Eryn) Richmond and Alex (Kevin) Gerard. Great grandchildren: Colten and Mason McGriff, Ben, Braeden, Adam Langer, Ayla and Maisie Clancy, Conner McGriff, Jack Richmond and Kage Gerard
Also remembering many special nieces and nephews.
Warren is predeceased by his wife Gwen, recently his sister Eris (Nielson), and his brothers Vern, Phil and Norm McGriff.
A commemorative service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Ore in a couple of weeks. (time and date will be posted soon on Simon Cornwell Funeral Home website Woodburn, Ore)
