Vernon "Vernie" Lee Hillyer 4-9-33 to 02-25-18
Vernon passed away on February 25, 2018 of complications of Pulmonary Fibrosis and Alzheimers.
He was born on April 9, 1933 in Cook Nebraska to Carrie and Edwin Hillyer.
He grew up in the Brooks area and attended school until he went to work in the hop fields.
Vernie had 8 siblings: Evelyn (preceded him in death), Iris (preceded him in death)
Junior, Ted, Eileen, Shirley, Bonnie and Betty.
Vernie worked on building the Interstate 5 Highway for Roy Klein construction before going on to drive 18 wheelers until his retirement at age 65.
In his retirement he enjoyed gardening (master gardener), building and painting wooden yard décor, spending time with family and friends. He played in pinochle card games and horse shoe tournaments for fun. He also had a love for dancing, he taught daughter Pam how to do the 2-step.
Vernie has 4 children: Rebecca, Laurie (who preceded him in death), Pam, and Danny.
Vernie has 7 grandchildren: Stacy, Beth, Grant, PJ, Kody, Brycson, and Dustin.
Vernie has 4 great grands: Hunter, Kaysin, Brandon and Blaine.
He also loved and helped to care for many nieces and nephews throughout their early years.
He was a wonderful Brother, Father, Grandfather, Uncle and Papa. He was an original for sure. He will be missed dearly.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 10th at 10 am in Woodburn at Simon-Cornwell Chapel.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
