Tomas Sanchez de Sepulveda passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025, at his home in Gresham, Oregon.
Tomas was born in Hualahuises, Nuevo León, Mexico, on May 25, 1932, to Tomas Sanchez de Lopez and Maria de Jesus Sepulveda Valderas. At the young age of 14, he moved to Texas and worked in the orange groves as a migrant worker. Tomas returned to Hualahuises still in his teens, and reunited with the love of his life, Esther, whom he had met in school. They married in their 20s and started a family.
Tomas and Esther moved to Texas with their three small children and continued working as migrant farm workers, later on a dairy farm. In 1961 and 1962, they traveled to Idaho and Oregon, eventually settling in Keizer, Oregon, in 1963. There, they raised their six children. Early on, Tomas worked as a farm laborer and later for the Southern Pacific Railway. He eventually returned to labor work until his retirement. He was very active in the Catholic Church community and did ministry in the prisons for years. He loved gardening as his pastime and had a green thumb that grew many types of plants, vegetables, and flowers. Tomas continued his passion for gardening until his 90s.
Tomas was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Esther, and their daughter, Maria. He is survived by his daughter, Thelma (Dominic) of Beaverton, and four sons: Tomas III (Corinna) of Salem, Angel (Michelle) of Portland, Raul (Tom) of Gresham, and Yudel of Las Vegas, NV. He also leaves behind 24 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, one sister, Noemi Sanchez, and many nephews and nieces throughout Oregon, Texas, Chicago, California and Mexico.
Tomas' children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will deeply miss his presence. "Tito, we love you and will miss you." Tus queridos.
