Obituary

Theodore Arnold UlkusTed was born in Wildrose, North Dakota on November 12, 1919 and passed away on August 11, 2013 in Wilsonville, Oregon at the age of 93.Ted spent most of his youth in the mid-west raised by his parents Adolf and Marie Ulkus. His father was a Lutheran Minister.Ted had two brothers, Bill and Harold and one sister, Lois.Shortly after graduating from Collinsville High School, he enlisted in the Army-Air Corps during WW II. He served as Chief Inspector of five (5) bomber groups in the South Pacific. While in the serving in the military, Ted married his childhood sweetheart, Ruth Kettel in 1944.Upon returning from the war, they lived in Wisconsin for several years and then moved to California in 1951. Ted worked for Sears Roebuck for almost 30 years as a building maintenance supervisor.Ted loved to serve at his church and in his community. Even at the age of 89 he was helping unload the food trucks at the local Senior Center. If anyone needed something done, they called Ted.Ted loved to camp, fish, throw horseshoes, play pinochle and work with tools. He enjoyed camping with Ruth and friends out in the desert. He had a wonderful sense of humor, loved to ""play with words"", solve crossword puzzles and drink black coffee. He often had a mischievous twinkle in his eye.Ted is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Ruth; two daughters, Virginia Boureston (Husband Richard) and Peggy Kucera (Husband Dennis).Ted and Ruth have 4 Grandsons, Richard, Myles, Scott and Ted; 11 Great-grandchildren.Ted is preceded in death by his son Teddy, who passed away in 1964.Final Interment will be at Green Hills Memorial Park, Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
