Shirl A. Evans, 90, of Tualatin died August 9, 2012 after an extended illness. He was born October 6, 1921 in Parowan, Utah, to John Calvin Evans and Carrie Osborne Evans. He attended and graduated from Parowan High School. During WWII he served with the Army Engineer Corps in Europe and Pacific Theater. Upon returning home he married his sweetheart Anna Jean Armstrong and attended and graduated as a civil engineer from Utah State University. During his career he had several major responsibilities including chief supervisory engineer for control dams on the St. Lawrence River Power Project, Niagara River Power Project. He was chief engineer for the Castaic and Pyramid Dams, Delta Mendota Canals, and the Tehachapi Tunnel System for the California State Water Project. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. During his life he taught and participated in square dance calling, youth dance festivals and ballroom dancing. Preceding him in death was Anna Jean, his wife and Oliver and Andrew Evans, grandsons. Survivors include his son, Dr. Kendall S. Evans (Barbara) of Oregon City, OR; daughter, Janeen Compton (Gordon) of Tualatin, OR; son, Dr. Gary L. Evans (Cheryl) of Fort Collins, CO; son, Dr. Rick A. Evans (Kari) of Wilsonville, OR; brother, Carl Evans (Margie) of Summit, UT; brother, Lyle Evans (Shirley) of Fillmore, UT; seventeen grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 25 at 10:00 am at the LDS Wilsonville meeting house.
