Royal John Acker
December 12, 1929 – January 5, 2016
Royal John Acker passed away January 5th, 2016, in Wilsonville, Oregon. He was 86 years old.
He was born December 12, 1929 in Chicago, to Royal and Lillian Acker. He grew up on a farm in Kansas, saying many times that was the best time of his life. At age 15, Roy drove his parents, his younger brother and 2 younger sisters in the family pickup and moved to Oregon.
Roy served in the Army during the Korean Conflict, 1951-1952. He was stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC.
Most of Roy's career was spent working with wood. He was a logger and Saw mill owner in Sultan, WA and in the early 70's ran a Saw mill in Portland. He moved to Corvallis in the late 70's and started a contracting, carpentry and home building business. Many homes in Corvallis were built by the "Royal Acker Construction Company". It was during this time that Roy met his wife, Rosemarie, and after a courtship of 12 years, they were married in Hawaii in 1988. In 1993, both Roy and Rosemarie became the Resident Managers of the large Thunderbird Mobile Park in Wilsonville for 10 years, at which time they retired and made Wilsonville their permanent home. For the past 20 years, they have been regular volunteers and guests of the Wilsonville Senior Center where Roy will be greatly missed by his many friends.
Roy leaves behind his wife, Rosemarie, of 27 years; his 4 children from his first marriage, Loretta Maul, Victoria Burgess, Edward Acker, and Andrew Acker; his 5 stepchildren, Steve Oldenstadt, Debbie Jenkins, Scott Oldenstadt, Deanne Broeshan, and Shawn Oldenstadt, as well as 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Roy played a very big part in all of our lives and will forever be missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, January 19th, 2016 at the Wilsonville United Methodist Church, 7355 SW Wilsonville Rd. Wilsonville, OR 97070 at 11:am.
