Obituary

Rose Salandra Pirelli passed away in Hubbard on February 20, 2015.

She was born in Arcavacata di Rende, Italy—a small hamlet of Rende in the province of Cosenza. She was one of six children born to Vincenza Porto Salandra and Emilio Salandra.

Rose married Jack Pirelli in Italy on December 8, 1946. Following in the footsteps of her grandparents, she immigrated to America in 1947, when she was only 19. She joined her husband on his farm near Hubbard, Oregon. Despite the fact that she didn't speak English when she came to America, she learned quickly and became an American citizen in 1950. Although her husband passed away in 1979, she continued to live on the farm for the rest of her life.

She worked as a cook for the North Marion School district for 26 years. Cooking and baking were always her passions. The meals she cooked are remembered fondly by her friends and family, especially her desserts: biscotti, honey buns, lemon meringue pies, chocolate chip cookies and cinnamon rolls.

She is survived by a brother and two sisters, her son Gene and his wife Michelle, three granddaughters, and a great-grandson.

Rosary will be Friday, February 27, 7 pm at Simon Cornwell Chapel in Woodburn. A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, February 28 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hubbard with interment at St. Luke Catholic Cemetery.

Donations may be made to St. Agnes Altar Society-Rose Pirelli Scholarship Fund.

Arrangements are entrusted to Simon-Cornwell Colonial Chapel
