Obituary

Robert Lincoln Hurst died at the age of 93 on Jan. 7, 2014.Robert was born Feb. 12, 1920 at Aurora, OR to Ezra and Amy(Will) Hurst.He was born in the OX Barn which is now the Oregon Historical Outlet for the Aurora Colony Society. He spent his childhood days in Aurora. There is lots of Ancestry in Aurora, including his grandmother that came by covered wagon to Oregon in 1861.Robert graduated from Canby High in 1937, leading the League in hitting baseball in his junior year.Robert married Loris Misley in 1941 and they had two children Larry and Trudy.Robert joined the Navy in 1943,after serving in Okinawa during WWII he was discharged as Chief Petty Officer.In the 1990's at the age of seventy he played on three senior soft ball world championship teams.Later he married Jean Miller and together with her son Lynn joined the family.She preceded him in death in 1980.Robert was a member of the Episcopal Church. Robert is a past Commander of the American Legion and leader in the Knights of Pythias Lodge in Aurora, worked at the historical Society and worked and taught at the Stauffer Log Cabin Exhibit near Aurora .He enjoyed fishing, golfing and softball.Robert was employed at the Aurora Post Office in his earlier years. He owned and operated a tavern on HWY 99 E, Hurst Lumber and Logging Company which was considered the highest grossing mill in the 1950's by Oregon Blue Book in Oregon ,owner of Hurst & Dental Oil Company in Aurora , Nehi Beverage of Salem in 1960's and Royal Gateway Motel in Bend, OR until he retired.Robert is survived by his sons Larry and Lynn Hurst and daughter Trudy Hurst-Quinn, nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.Preceded in death by brother Norman Hurst and sisters; Dorothy Junken, Tiny Osvold, Evadna Woodhouse and Mother-in-law Alacoque Bartlett.A Funeral service will be held Wed. Jan. 15, 2014 at 1:00 PM at St. Mary's Episcopal Church at Woodburn.Interment at Aurora Community Cemetery with military honors.Arrangements by Simon-Cornwell Colonial Chapel-Woodburn
