Robert Stanley Fogerson, 88, of Woodburn, Oregon died July 2, 2016 surrounded by the ones he loved.
He was born March 6, 1928 in Los Angeles, California and moved with his mother Mary Louise Zabriskie to Boise, Idaho and eventually to Puyallup, Washington where he graduated from high school on May 31, 1946. There at the age of eighteen years he was honorably discharged from the Washington State Guard. In June 1946 he enlisted in the Marines where he served as an amphibious tank crewman and commander. In February of 1948 he joined the Army where he attended the Army Language school with a course in Russian and excelled with honors. During his twenty – three years with the Army he received many awards and honors, including the Army Commendation Medal and the NSA Joint Service Commendation Medal. He faithfully served his country until his retirement on July 1, 1971.
After his retirement he moved to Woodburn, where he served his community working in the Post Office until he retired on March 31, 1990. Robert loved to do crossword puzzles, rock hunt, bowl, watch sports, and spend time with his family. He especially loved his wife, Gladys of 67 years. They wrote each other as pen pals and met in March of 1949, marrying in September of 1949.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys, three sons, Robert Jr., David and Michael; two daughters, Mary Della, and Sherry, eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
