Richard "Dick" Toepfer passed away on August 28, 2015 in Woodburn, Oregon. Dick was born to Augustine "Gus" Toepfer and Gertrude "Gertie" Schmitz Toepfer on January 21, 1930 at home in Sublimity, OR. The family moved to Woodburn in October 1935 where Dick attended Johnston School and graduated from Woodburn High School in 1948.
Dick married the love of his life, Patricia "Pat" Louise Tremaine, at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Woodburn on November 4, 1950. They were blessed with two daughters, Christine and Sheryl.
Dick served in the Oregon National Guard for 9 years and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in June 1957.
After driving truck (logging, long haul and local delivery) for decades which concluded upon his retirement from Silver Eagle trucking in 1993, Dick and Pat moved to Arizona to enjoy their retirement. Dick and Pat were avid car racing fans that enjoyed local and NASCAR Stock Auto Racing. They were fortunate to be able to attend events at Daytona as well as races in Michigan, California, Arizona, Washington and closer to home.
Before finally coming home to Woodburn for the last time in February 2014, Dick lived in Colstrip, MT.
Dick is predeceased by his wife Patricia, daughter Sheryl, nieces DeAnna Topefer Hughes and Kimberly Toepfer ; he is survived by daughter, Christine (Mark) Tubra, son-in-law Tom Toscano, grandson Jeff (Audra) Toscano, great grandsons Slade and Blake Toscano, step grandchildren Justin and Janelle Tubra, his brother Virgil Toepfer, and sister Dolores Hutchings, nephews Scott Hutchings and his daughter Sloane, Chip (Carrie) Hutchings and their children Elsie and Riley; nieces Lori Hutchings, Debbie (James) Prinslow and their children Travis, Michelle, Ehren and RaeLynn; great step grandchildren, Taylor Hamilton and Preston Tubra.
A visitation will be held on Friday, September 4, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. at Cornwell Funeral Home in Woodburn; with a memorial service immediately following at 10:00 a.m. Private interment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Portland, OR.
