June 10, 1937 - October 12, 2015
Richard (Dick) W. Kruger was born June 10, 1937 in Portland Oregon to Walter & Erna (Bollinger) Kruger. He was a lifelong resident of Sherwood, Oregon. He is survived by his significant other Judy Corcoran, her three daughters, and his brother Donald Kruger of Sherwood. He passed on October 12, 2015 at his home in Canby, OR after a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was introduced to the rural life and raising cattle at an early age, staying close to the family home place for his whole life, never venturing far from home. He spent two years in the Army before finding his calling as the owner of Dick's Wrecking yard, a business he thoroughly enjoyed for many years. He continued raising cattle throughout his life.
Family and friends were an enormous part of Dick's life. There are numerous cousins that he stayed in touch with and enjoyed the company of. He enjoyed sharing old times, good times and current events of the day with everyone. He had a very good memory, especially family and local history, often sharing his excellent recall with others.
Dick also found many friends at square dances. This fun and good times were a big part of his life for many years. He accumulated a lot of good friends along the way.
Lunch with "the boys" at local establishments, where they exchanged and discussed current events, was an important part of his day. Always eager to engage in conversation, Dick will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His incredible desire to live was an inspiration to all.
A caring and helpful man, if someone needed help he would drop everything and go to their aid. Dick's motto was "Treat people as you would like to be treated". He was a man of integrity and compassion and surrounded himself with people with these same wonderful qualities.
During the later months of Dick's life he enjoyed frequent visits from family and friends at his home in Canby. He was fortunate and thankful to have Judy and her family, as well as his family and friends, as support and comfort during the last months of his life. Their company was something he looked forward to everyday. In addition to the wonderful care Judy provided, he was grateful and appreciative of the wonderful care given by the Legacy Health Hospice organization from McMinnville. On acceptance of his situation, Dick was heard many times saying "I have had twice as much fun as the average person."
