Peggy Ann Metzler passed away peacefully on March 20, 2018 at Emerald Gardens assisted living in Woodburn, Oregon. She was born February 4, 1936 to William and Ann Norris in Phoenix, Arizona. Following her parents' divorce and her mother's remarriage, she was raised by her mother and stepfather, Mike DiCarlo.
In Phoenix, Peggy attended West High School, and on September 3, 1952, married Richard Carl Metzler. The two began married life in San Diego where he was stationed in the Navy. Later, they moved to southern Oregon and Tualatin before settling in Woodburn. The two had five children who Peggy raised while working cleaning houses. Richard passed away on October 4, 2000, just after their 48th wedding anniversary.
Peggy was remarried in 2008 to Samuel (Jim) Howard, and the two lived in Woodburn where she worked as a greeter at Wal-Mart. Peggy loved gardening, and enjoyed a sense of humor that produced an infectious smile.
Peggy is survived by her husband Jim; sons and daughters-in-law Richard and Debbie, William and Jan, and Michael and Cindy; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren with two additional due this year; her sister Beverly McCall; and half-brother Frank DiCarlo. She was preceded in death by son Kenneth, daughter Debra Del Secco, and her sister Nancy Howard.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 14 at 4pm at the home of her son, Richard, at 11765 SW Ann Street, Tigard, Oregon, 97223. A private burial will be held at Willamette National Cemetery.
