Elaine Ringo, 85, of Woodburn, died Sunday, April 27 at Farmington Square in Tualatin, Oregon. Elaine was born October 23, 1928 in Ontario, Oregon to Axtel and Lolo Reed. She was the oldest of three children. She grew up in Brogan, Oregon and graduated from Vale High School as valedictorian of her class. She met Al Ringo at Oregon State University where she graduated with a degree in Home Economics. They were married June 26, 1949 in Vale, Oregon. Al and Elaine spent most of their nearly 60 years together in Woodburn, Oregon.While Al was working Elaine was busy raising their five children. When she wasn't tending to her children and their activities, she was active with good friends and her church. For many years she played piano and organ for Sunday services at the United Methodist Church in Woodburn. She was a substitute teacher in Woodburn for many years. She taught piano lessons - all of her children learned to play the piano. She loved to play cards and she was active in a variety of service organizations, including the Woodburn chapter of P.E.O.After retirement, Al and Elaine enjoyed traveling. Many of their Winters were spent in Yuma, Arizona. These activities broadened the group of lifelong friends and added to their travels - these social connections were important. The biggest passion for Elaine was activities and traditions that focused on her family - her children, then her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Those touched by Elaine found her to be a loving, caring, supportive and compassionate person.Survivors include her five children, Michael of Bandon, Alan of Medford, Karla Ringo of Sherwood, Kevin of Beaverton, and Terri Smith of Stayton; seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.A memorial service is planned for 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at the Woodburn United Methodist Church with a reception to follow.
