Nina Smith Haugen Died September 27, 2024, at a care home in Canby of complications due to Multiple Sclerosis.
She was born in Salem Oregon December 19, 1954, to Killian W. Smith and Hazel M. Smith. She was the sixth of seven children. Sisters: Yvonne Thomas, of Corvallis, Lana (Richard) Schindler, Sublimity, Ruth DeSantis, Woodburn, Rita (Gordy) Hartwig, of Canby, and brother Glen (Coleen) Smith of Gervais. She went to St. Lukes school, Sacred Heart in Salem, then Woodburn High School. (Class of 1973), She graduated from Southern Oregon College with a teaching degree. She worked 4 years as a teacher and coach first at Marshfield High School in North Bend and later substituted and coached at Woodburn High. She worked as a park ranger at Champoeg, the waysides around Rooster Rock State Park, and Ainsworth Campgrounds, retiring from the Oregon State Parks system.
Nina loved all sports, starting at volleyball, softball, then swimming almost daily at the Woodburn Aquatic Center.
In October 1st 1994 she married Edward Haugen III at Champoeg Park. They lived in Gresham, in 2009 they moved to Woodburn. On June 12, 2024, after 30 years of marriage Edward died.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kilian and Hazel, sister Martha, husband Edward , brother in laws Dennis, George, Mick and Gary . She is survived by her sisters, Yvonne, Lana, Ruth and Rita, brother Glen, 15 nieces and nephews: Teresa, Veronica, Mitchell, Rebecca, Jason, Marc , Carla, Emily , Aaron, Gino, Cora, Clara, Dalton, Jerine, and Michael, and step son Curtis.
Services will be held at St. Lukes Church at 11 A.M on Friday October 18, 2024, Internment at St. Lukes Cemetery and luncheon to follow at St. Lukes Hall.
