Nancy Kirksey, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and community advocate, passed away October 17, 2023.



Nancy held the distinction of being elected the first woman mayor of Woodburn, Oregon, serving for two separate four-year terms (1987-1990 and 1995-1998). Responsible for bringing the Chemeketa Community College's satellite program to Woodburn, Nancy worked tirelessly, running the program from her living room, to make education available to all. Nancy continued to serve as Director of Chemeketa until her retirement in 1994. During her time at Chemeketa, Nancy attended college at Eastern Oregon, obtaining her Bachelor's Degree at the age of 55. Always focusing on the good of the community, Nancy campaigned for numerous school bond measures, helped establish the World Berry Museum, served on the Woodburn Public Library Board, organized the Kiwanis Mayor's Prayer Breakfast for many years, and served as a member of Woodburn Kiwanis.



Poocho Moocho, a delightful children's book authored by Nancy, was just one example of Nancy's creativity.



Nancy Ann Bradbury Kirksey was born in Augusta, Maine and was raised in Norway, Maine. She graduated from Norway High School. After high school, Nancy attended nursing school, then enjoyed a career in nursing both in Maine and Florida. In 1962 Nancy met Loy Kirksey when visiting family in Oregon. Nancy and Loy celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary in September 2023.



Nancy is survived by her husband, Loy Kirksey of Woodburn, OR, sons Darrell (Jodi) Kirksey of Mountain Home, TX, and Scott (Julie) Kirksey of Bend, OR, grandchildren Reed (Diane) Kirksey, Jase (Blayne) Kirksey, Alexandra Kirksey, and Erin Kirksey, and great-grandsons Logan and Max.



In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to one of Nancy's favorite charities: Southern Reins Equine Therapy (Collierville, TN) or Doernbecher Children's Hospital (Portland, OR), or to a charity of your choice.



Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, October 23, 2023 at Cornwell Colonial Chapel, Woodburn, OR. Arrangements by Cornwell Colonial Chapel.
