Obituary

Myrland Carroll Gilbert was born in Morrill, Nebraska, moving to Oregon in 1920 and to Newberg in 1928. In high school he met Charlotte, who became his high school sweetheart. They married in 1937. He was employed at Spaulding Pulp and Paper Co. from 1936 to 1949
as assistant auditor and purchasing agent. For several of these years he was Scoutmaster for the local Boy Scouts. In 1949 to 1960 was auditor for a car agency headquartered in Newberg, with agencies in other cities. In 1960 he became employed by the City of Newberg as City Recorder, Municipal Judge and Finance Officer. In 1975 Newberg created the position of City Administrator, naming Myrland to that position. He retired in 1980. That year he recieved the Distinguished Citizen Award from George Fox College. He was a member of the Newberg Fire Dept, retiring as Assistant Fire Chief. In retirement, he and Charlotte spent several winters in Yuma, AZ. In 1984 they had a house built at the Senior Estates in Woodburn. They enjoyed traveling in their motor home throughout the western United States and Canada, as well as the Oregon Coast and taking their boat to the lakes in Oregon for fishing. They also enjoyed several cruises throughout the years.

He is survived by his daughter, Sharlan Dormaier, granddaughter, Shannon (Ken) Phillips, two great grandsons, Alexander and Jacob.

Myrland was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte of 74 years, a brother and a great grandson.
