Obituary

Mildred Rose Henny passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024 in Woodburn, Oregon. She was born July 27, 1922 to Charles and Dorothy Zielinski in Salem. Her parents farmed the homestead in Hazel Green that belonged to her grandparents. Mildred grew up with her two sisters Charlotte McKay (deceased) and Aileen Manning, and brother Ernest Zielinski (deceased).

Mildred graduated from Sacred Heart Academy High School in Salem. She met Joseph Henny in 1940 and they were married at St Joseph Catholic Church in Salem on November 25, 1941. They first built a small home in the Lake Labish area. Soon after, they purchased the Leedy home in Brooks where she and Joe farmed onions, strawberries, pears, peppermint, sugar beets, and wheat. They were also one of the first farms to grow marionberries commercially. Their children Charles and Barbara were raised here. You would often see the family of four working together in the fields during the spring, summer, and fall. Mildred moved off the farm in 2006, a year after her husband died. Mildred and Joe were married almost 65 years. Mildred then moved to a home in Tukwila and most recently resided at Cascade Park Assisted Living in Woodburn.

Mildred loved caring for the flowers and plants in her garden and was an excellent canner and cook. She belonged to the Lake Labish Garden Club. She was a designer at heart and adept at making floral arrangements and was in charge of providing flowers to decorate Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gervais for Holy Days and special events such as the chicken dinner fundraiser for over 30 years. She was twice honored as Mother of the Year at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She belonged to and held positions in the Parent's Club at Sacred Heart Catholic School. Mildred attended her children's athletic events and her great grandchildren's activities. Mildred was a tireless worker and cared for her mother Dorothy in her Brooks home for 8 years.

Mildred is survived by her son Charles Henny (Susan), granddaughters Cheryl Evan (Jason), Sharon Kolb (Adam) and great grandchildren Abby Evan, Michael Evan, Jacob Kolb, and Gabe Kolb.

Mildred is also survived by her daughter Barbara Davis (Michael, deceased), granddaughters Michele Kreager (Doug), Karen LeMaster (Matthew) and great grandchildren Scott Kreager, Morgan Kreager, Henry LeMaster, and Joe LeMaster.
