Max was born to Jessie and Max, Sr. in Merced, California and raised in Watsonville. A bay area Golden Gloves heavyweight champ at 18, Max then attended Hartnell J.C. where he met Dolores de L'Etanche with whom the 6'3" interior lineman later graduated from U.C. Berkeley. Max and Dolores were wed in 1959 and remained married until his passing. Max went to work for Shell Oil in Stockton where children Max III and Jessica were born. After being transferred to Shell's Portland office in 1965, Max and family roamed the state of Oregon on countless fishing jaunts. Max was later charged with store planning and development for Fleming Foods Portland division until his retirement. Max coached Lake Oswego Little Guy, CYO, and Pop Warner football teams for a decade and a half, built spinning and fly rods, created N.W. Indian-inspired wood carvings, was a students of Egyptology, and long standing member and past president of the Western Woodcarvers Association. Dolores introduced Max to the Society of St. Vincent DePaul- Our Lady of the Lake conference where he made cherished friends all around the metro area as an enthusiastic volunteer to the very end. Max is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dolores; daughter Jessica Bange (Scott); son Max Anderson III; granddaughters Claire and Sophie Bange and brothers Don and Roger Anderson of Los Gatos, CA. A private service has been conducted by Fr. John Kerns at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lake Oswego. Please remember Max with a donation to the Society of St. Vincent DePaul.
