Obituary

Martha (Marti) Hove passed away on May 31, 2015, at the age of 75 after a long and bravely fought illness. She was born in Denver, Colo., on February 22, 1940, to George and Hazel Waddington, the younger of two children.
The family moved to Oregon in 1951 and made their home outside of Hubbard. Marti graduated from North Marion High School in 1958. She married Ivan Hove on August 30, 1958, and lived most of her married life on Fargo Road near Butteville. They had two children, Randy and Kim, and were happily married for 54 years, until Ivan's death in 2012. Marti retired from North Marion Elementary and Middle Schools as a library assistant after 29 years in 1998.
Growing up in Denver, Marti loved riding horses with her cousins and camping in the mountains. Her hobbies later included reading, flower and vegetable gardening, baking, canning and waterskiing. Marti especially loved traveling with Ivan and her friends. She was always planning her next trip, cruise or flight to exotic warm places like the Cook Islands, Hawaii and the Bahamas.
She could make the world's best apple pie and potato salad, and she canned everything from beans to salsa to tuna fish. She loved her animals and always had multiple cats and dogs; she also attended to her many goldfish that lived for years in their fish pond in the backyard.
Marti loved her family and friends and felt they were all so precious to her. She is survived by her two children, son Randy and his wife Kate, daughter Kim Dimick and her husband Hardy, all from Canby; two grandsons, Tim Hove of Bellevue, Wash., and Chris Hove of Gladstone. Her spouse, Ivan, parents and brother, preceded her in death.

A gathering to celebrate her life will be held at Simon-Cornwell Colonial Chapel, 390 North 2nd Street, Woodburn, Ore., on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at 2 p.m. At the conclusion of the service, there will be a gathering for friends and family at the chapel. Interment was at the Hubbard Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Willamette Humane Society, P.O. Box 13005, Salem, OR 97309-1005.
