Obituary

Marjorie Anita Hansen
(March 27, 1924 – January 7, 2015)

Marjorie (Margie) Hansen passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 with her family by her side. Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, in 1998, and is survived by her sons Keith (Sandi) of Portland, Patrick (Ratika) of Hillsboro, and Mike (Mary) of Tigard; and by her daughter Sandee of Ocean Shores, WA. Also surviving are her brothers Ted (Alice) of La Conner, WA and Jerry of Sherwood; granddaughters Stephanie (Matt) of Bend, Erica (Sara) of Tigard, Becky and Erin of Portland; grandsons Sanjay and Samir of Hillsboro; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Born in 1924 and raised in Humptulips, WA to parents Grant and Mary Thomsen, Margie helped her father raise her younger brothers after her mother passed away from cancer at a young age. In 1941 Margie graduated from Hoquiam High School where she excelled in music, baton twirling, and athletics. During WWII, Margie was one of the first women to work in a sawmill and her photo was featured in a local newspaper article. In 1950, Margie married Lester Hansen, a Navy veteran. They settled in Hoquiam where Margie was an excellent homemaker who lovingly raised their four children. Les and Margie enjoyed annual family camping trips to the Oregon coast, where they created lifelong happy memories. After their kids grew up, Les and Margie enjoyed being grandparents, playing Pinochle with friends, raising Siamese cats, and vacationing to their favorite travel destinations of Seaside, Oregon and Victoria, Canada. They also visited Washington, DC.
Margie moved to Tigard after Les passed away from a heart condition in 1998. While she greatly missed Les and Grays Harbor she enjoyed the comfort of being closer to her children, grandchildren, and brother. She became a regular fan at her granddaughters' youth sporting events where she became known as "Grandma" to the teammates and families. In 2000, she traveled to Hawaii with family and enjoyed a sunset catamaran cruise off Waikiki and visiting Pearl Harbor. In 2011, she welcomed her twin grandsons to the family and delighted in them during their regular Sunday morning visits. She was an avid fan of the Seahawks, the Mariners, and professional golf.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Wilsonville. A reception will follow at her son Mike's home. A private burial will follow at Willamette National Cemetery at a later date.
