Obituary

September 20, 1957 -- August 2, 2013Marie Krause, 55, passed away at her home in Wilsonville on August 2, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. The youngest of three children, Marie was born in Newark, NJ to Joseph and Mildred Hochdorfer. After graduating from Archbishop Walsh High School in Irvington, NJ, in 1975, she decided to take a chance on the boy from the #94 bus and married her husband of 33 years, Anthony ""Tony"" Krause, on June 14, 1980, at Holy Spirit Church in Union, NJ.After Tony accepted a new job in the faraway wilderness of Portland, Oregon, Marie stayed in NJ for three months to settle affairs and take care of their two young children before the family reunited in 1994. She balanced a successful business career at Dennis Combs AG Consultants in Lake Oswego for 14 years, participated in church activities at Resurrection Catholic Church in Tualatin, all while raising her family in West Linn. Marie was most comfortable and most effective when she could help others while staying out of the limelight. Delivering food to the needy, running the day to day ""little"" tasks that kept the business going, folding laundry and ironing handkerchiefs that no one would ever know were wrinkled - she gave of herself fully, at home, at work, and in the community, never seeking the recognition of others but always willing to help. Marie was an avid reader; a trait passed on to her children, and especially loved the mystery novels of Harlan Coben and Oliver Potzsch. She loved Hitchcock movies, Billy Joel and Josh Groban music, and thick deli sandwiches. She had a lifelong love of travel (although she hated to pack and get ready for her trips), whether it was on Caribbean cruises with her parents, educational trips with her young family to Gettysburg and Washington DC, or fun trips to Cape Cod, Nags Head, Las Vegas and Los Angeles.Marie and Tony were devoted life partners who grew to complement each other through the years. She drove over the tall bridges; he took care of the spiders. He painted the large wall areas; she painted the detail around the moldings. She fixed everyone's hurts, inside and outside, real and imagined; he wondered how he was so lucky to win the best prize anyone could imagine.Marie is survived by her husband, Anthony; her children, Andrew and Stephanie; her grandson, Joe; her brother, Joseph Hochdorfer, and sister, Elaine Gilbert; and 24 nieces and nephews. She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her for her sweet and generous spirit; her perseverance, dedication, and work ethic; and her cheesecake recipe.Visitation for Marie will be held at 4-8 PM on August 7, 2013, at Cornwell Colonial Chapel in Wilsonville. Funeral services will be at 10 AM on August 8, 2013 at Resurrection Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lake Oswego. In memoriam, the family asks for donations to Providence Hospice and the American Diabetes Association.Memorial Mass at 10am and reception to follow.
