Obituary

Marcia Courtney Wood, long time resident of Woodburn, Oregon, died peacefully on February 10, 2023, surrounded by family. She was 79. Marcia was born in The Dalles, Oregon on January 30, 1944 to Don and Doris Courtney. She grew up in Reedsport, Oregon as the oldest of the six Courtney children and attended Reedsport High School and the University of Oregon. In 1964, Marcia moved to Portland and took a job at US Bank, where she met the love of her life, Walt Wood. They were married on July 9, 1966.

Marcia enjoyed a very long and successful career at US Bank and retired after 35 years of service. She loved her job and her various customer service roles at the bank. During the year that Marcia and Walt lived in American Samoa, she continued to use her people skills volunteering at the diocesean office for the Catholic Church, alongside Sr. Mary Naab. Marcia was also a long-time, active member in the women's philanthropic organization, P.E.O. for 53 years. Throughout her life, Marcia's loyalty to her family, friends, work, church, and the Ducks was beyond measure.

Walt and Marcia had two daughters, Stephanie and Jennifer. Marcia loved her girls and their spouses, but nothing gave her greater pleasure in life than being "Grammy" to her four grandchildren. Marcia loved watching them grow up to become capable and talented young adults; she was incredibly proud of each of them. Marcia also enjoyed traveling with Walt all across the globe. Frequently, their adventures took them across the open sea, as a cruise ship was her preferred method of travel. They took many amazing trips together, having visited 60 countries throughout the world, but her favorite place to visit would always be Maui. As she would always say, "Maui No Ka 'Oi!"

Marcia was predeceased by her parents, and her beloved brother, Don. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Walt; her siblings, David, Pete, Teresa, and Christina; her daughters, Stephanie Scanlon (Luke) and Jennifer Calhoun (Tim); her four grandchildren, Jessica Calhoun, Emily Calhoun, Abby Calhoun, and Liam Scanlon; and many nieces and nephews. She was immensely loved and will be missed dearly.

The family is very thankful for the excellent care and outpouring of love Marcia received during her last few months of life at West Hills Health and Rehabilitation in Portland. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Clare Catholic Church in Portland, Oregon, on February 18, 2023 at 11 am. Reception to follow at St. Clare Parish Hall.
