Tributes

Lyman was born on a farm in Woodburn, Oregon on December 15, 1917, and died on March 22, 2016 at his home at The Springs in Wilsonville, Oregon. He is survived by his wife, Louise Wengenroth Seely, three children, Charlotte Seely Sharp of Beaverton, Douglas Seely (Ruthann) of West Linn, and Marilyn Seely Harris (Bobby) of Milwaukie, eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and his sister, Shirley Seely Bond of Keizer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ada Seely, brother Norman Seely and sister, Lois Seely Wengenroth. Lyman graduated from Oregon State College (later University) with a degree in Secretarial Science. He served as a captain in the Army Air Force as an intelligence officer during WW11 in the African and European Theaters Lyman's lifelong career in banking started in Woodburn, where he was manager of the First National Bank, (now Wells Fargo). He was later transferred to the head office in Portland and rose to become Vice Chairman of the board of directors. Throughout his career, Lyman was committed to furthering his education an completed banking programs at Pacific Coast School of Banking an Columbia University. He served on many boards, incluing Willamette Industries, OECO, Westcore, McCall Oil, Portland State University Student Housing ,and executive board member of the Portland Area Council of Boy Scouts of America. He also served as chairman of United Good Neighbors and and Oregon Historical Society fund raising campaigns. He as Past President of Portland Clearing House and the Woodburn Rotary Club and a member of an Oregon Governor's Trade Mission to Japan. He served for many years as Chairman of the board of Visa International during its explosive growth and brand identification period. At the age of 98, Lyman was the oldest living member of the the Arlington Club in Portland. Lyman was instrumental in the OSU Foundation fundraising that resulted in the construction of the LaSells Stewart Center on campus, and remained devoted to the foundations's work throughout his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lyman's name to the OSU Foundation (osufoundation.org or 541-737-5820) Lyman led a full life enjoying the outdoors, travel, gardening, boating, and most of all, spending time with his family.
