LOUISE MARY GATCH, born June17, 1917 died October 6, 2013Louise died peacefully Sunday morning, October 6th. Born Louise Mary Bernard on June 17, 1917 in Edmonton, Albert, Canada, she became a U.S. citizen in 1967. The second of five children and oldest daughter of the Spanish Consul in British Columbia, Louise lost her fiancé during World War II from an accident at the port where he worked. Later, her job with United Airlines relocated her to Portland, Oregon where she met and married Merle "Bill" Gatch on April 19, 1947. Louise and her husband raised two children in the Beaverton-Raleigh Hills area and lived many years in Mountain Park before retiring to Charbonneau in 1994. She was an avid tennis player most of her life and played water volleyball until just a few years ago.Louise was a Catholic and a devoted member of several congregations in the Portland area over her lifetime including Our Lady of the Lake in Lake Oswego and St. Cyril Parrish in Wilsonville. She volunteered tens of thousands of hours in her lifetime for such causes as Birthright, Gray Ladies-Red Cross, Chair-MAC Womens Social Activities Committee, Assistance League, and Welcome Wagon She worked many years in the retail fashion industry at Meier & Frans, Nordstroms and Helen's of Course.She is survived by her daughters Suzanne Gatch and Dolores Warner, sister Agnes Hornby, grandchildren Michael Wingard and Matthew Wingard, and two great grandchildren Hunter Pico and Addison Wingard.Services will be held at St Cyril Catholic Church, Wilsonville, on Tuesday, October 15th at 1:30 PM. Funeral Services provided by Cornwell Colonial Chapel, Wilsonville, OR. She will be interred with her husband in a private ceremony at Willamette National Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations to CNEWA (Catholic Near East Welfare Association) or St. Cyril would be appreciated.
