Lesley Rae Berry

Lesley suffered a cardiac arrest on September 11th and died at Legacy Emanuel Hospital with her family by her side.

Born Lesley Rae Pickering in Van Nuys, California she was the youngest of 5 children. Her family moved to Oregon in 1947 and lived near NE Killingsworth Street. She attended Vernon Elementary until 8th grade and Jefferson High School.

Lesley attended Portland State University after high school and was a member of the Phi Beta Phi Sorority. She met her future husband David Berry during a trip in San Francisco with her friend Janine Mariels. She was married in 1962 and later had her two children Michael and Rebecca Berry.

Lesley was a stay at home Mom during most of her children's early years. She later made the decision to go back to school and finish her degree through evening school. Lesley earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Portland State University in 1979.

She worked as a librarian at Shaver Elementary in NE Portland. She also worked for Detroit Diesel, Fullman Plumbing and Fullman Kinetecs during the high tech boom. She met many good friends at Fullman Kinetics, where she retired.

Lesley purchased a home with her daughter and son-in-law and shared the home with them and their two children. She was a big part of their lives and would help her grandchildren with homework after school and carpools when needed.

Lesley stayed busy during her retirement. Whether it was vacation travel with her friends, volunteering at the Wilsonville Library, meeting up with the Wilsonville bridge group or meeting up with her friend Dorothy for her (almost) weekly scrabble games. Once a month Lesley got together some of her long time friends that all attended Vernon Elementary school together.

Lesley is survived by her son Michael Berry and daughter Rebecca Berry (Higa), grandchildren Jessica and Ryan Berry, David and Sydney Higa, brothers Gene and Avery Pickering and sisters Beth Edmon and Adele Chenoweth.
