Obituary

In Loving Memory of Larry Saucedo

Larry Saucedo was a man who loved deeply, gave generously, and lived his life with an open heart. To know Larry was to know that there was always room for one more person, one more song, one more story, and one more act of kindness.

Family was at the center of Larry’s world. He is survived by his beloved wife, Roberta Saucedo, and his children, Lido (Elizabeth) Saucedo, Wesley (Eric) Avila, and Ely (Jill) Saucedo. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Mojo, who went everywhere with him.

Larry was very proud of his grandchildren, Lexie Kawabata, Cade Saucedo, Tommy Cousin, Cruz Saucedo, Allaniz Saucedo, Eric Avila, Mia Avila, Isabella Saucedo, and Robert Saucedo, and his great-grandchildren, Uluwehi Alapai, Imua Alapai, and Asami Kawabata.

He is also survived by his siblings, Auggie, Phillip, Rick, Anthony, Lynn, Annette, Elaine, Mark, and Marguerite. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Lido and Irene Saucedo, and his siblings Danny and Mathew.

There are people who enjoy music, and then there was Larry.

Music was in his soul. It was part of the way he experienced the world, expressed himself, connected with people, and found joy. Larry didn’t simply know songs. He knew the bands, the musicians in the bands, their histories, their stories, and probably a few facts even the musicians themselves had forgotten. Few things made him happier than turning up the music and jamming in his garage.

Music made Larry move, but love was what guided his life.

Larry’s love language was giving. If he was coming to see you, he would be bringing something for you. Maybe it was a special treasure he had found that reminded him of you, a favorite treat, or enough food to feed everyone in the house. He had an incredible ability to find something meaningful for the people he loved, and he never arrived empty-handed.

The flea market was also a special part of Larry’s life. Alongside many of his siblings and children, he helped make it the place people knew and loved. Larry would arrive early to put up the flags, make repairs, clean, pressure wash, and do whatever needed to be done. It was more than a place to buy and sell treasures. It was a place to make connections, make deals, share stories, spend time with family, and build friendships. Larry poured a piece of himself into that community.

Larry was also an extraordinarily talented carpenter. He could build just about anything, and he freely shared that talent with others. He was always building something, fixing something, helping someone with a project, or lending a hand simply because someone needed one. He never needed recognition for helping. It was simply who he was.

Larry loved being surrounded by his family. He loved his wife, his children and grandchildren, his siblings, gatherings, parties, laughter, good food, and especially good music. Some of his happiest moments were simply being together with the people he loved.

Larry was Catholic, but his spirituality reached far beyond the walls of any church. One phrase captured the way he lived perhaps better than anything else:

“Love is my religion.”

And for Larry, it truly was.

He was a one-love kind of man. He believed people deserved kindness and another chance. He believed in showing up, helping out, feeding people, giving something away simply because it might brighten someone’s day, and making sure the people around him knew they mattered.

Larry leaves behind much more than the things he built, the treasures he collected, or the songs he loved. He leaves behind countless people whose lives are better because he was part of them.

He leaves behind stories that will be told at family gatherings for generations. Songs that will forever make someone say, “Larry loved this one.” Treasures tucked away in homes that were once handed over with a smile because he saw them and immediately thought of someone he loved.

And most importantly, he leaves behind a family who knew, without question, how deeply they were loved.

The garage may be a little quieter now, but Larry’s music will never stop playing.

His kindness lives on in every person he helped. His generosity lives on in every gift he gave. His laughter lives on in the stories his family will continue to tell. And his love lives on in all of us.

One love, always.
