Larry was a Montana boy, born in Billings and raised in Roundup by Clifton and Olga Block Hunter. His intellect was Big Sky size. While in high school the brightest students from the state were tested at Montana State. His ratings were off the top of the charts.He received BS and MS degrees from University of Montana and earned a PhD. in Mathematics at University of Oregon. He went to work for Sylvania in California, at 28 became the director of their Electronics Defense Labs in Mountain View. In 1968 he was hired as the first director of the newly built Oregon State U computer center and taught math to graduate students.Larry married Janice Carol Hanson in 1952, later divorced. They had three children: Clifton and Nancy, both deceased, and Jenn Hunter who lives in Scotts Valley CA with her children, Larry's grandchildren, Cooper and Audrey. In 1967 he married Lorene Leonard Morris and helped her raise two daughters, Chris Kashmir-Green (Dennis) and Eve Dixon (Charlie). He is also survived by grandchildren Lisa Owens and Jamie Bevandich, Alix Dixon and Kyle Dixon, and three great grandchildren.In 1969 Larry and Lorene started Applied Theory, Inc. which pioneered computer-controlled sawmill systems. In l988 they moved to Charbonneau and formed another software company, Hunter International.Since retiring Larry spent twenty years volunteering at the Wilsonville Senior Center, helping others with their computer questions.He and Lorene moved to SpringRidge at Charbonneau last year after 13 years in Lake Oswego. Despite being physically compromised due to childhood polio, Larry lived strong, took business risks, and loved deeply. He lived a very private life and requested no services after death. He died the way he wanted to - at home and at peace. In his adult life he never spent one night in a hospital. His family plan to carry his ashes back to Montana. He was and is greatly loved.
