Kenneth Lance Van Oosten was born on June 23rd, 1963 to James H. and Mary Lou Van Oosten. Ken was one of four children, the 2nd child and oldest of their 3 boys. Ken grew up in Springfield, Oregon where he enjoyed spending time with his grandparents and family. Ken especially enjoyed hunting and fishing and variety of outdoor activities. Ken participated in football and basketball in Jr. High and High School, graduating from Thurston High School in 1981. Shortly after Ken's graduation his family moved to Woodburn, OR. Ken stayed in Springfield working at various labor jobs for about 10 years until he moved to the Woodburn area.
Ken loved his family and wanted to be close to them. Ken spent some time with his sister in the Portland area but settled in Woodburn. Ken was always willing to lend a hand to whoever needed it. He worked a variety of jobs in the Woodburn area including some time with Les Schwab tires. Ultimately self-employment was where he was where he found his niche. Many folks in the Woodburn area liked Ken and benefited from his strong work ethic, willingness to help, his positive attitude and ready smile.
About March of 2022 Ken was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and his health began to take a strong down turn. Ken's attitude remained good even as his pain and limitations grew. His brother Bob was wonderful brother, good friend and valued help to Ken.
Ken believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior and we believe the LORD in His great mercy called him home on Monday Oct. 10th 2022.
Ken is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Survived by son Trevor Van Iderstine, sister Cindy (Jim) Day and brothers Jim (Terri) and Bob Van Oosten as well as number of nieces and nephews.
The family will plan a burial service of Ken's ashes in November, date to be determined.
