Obituary

Kenneth Dale Jones11-16-1949 to 8-20-2012 Ken was born in Phoenix, Arizona to parents Rollo and Louise Jones. He graduated from Camelback High School in 1967 and attended Arizona State University before entering the United States Army in July 1969. Ken served in Vietnam as a motor pool clerk from Dec. 1969 until Feb. 1971 leaving the service as a SP5 with an honorable discharge. Ken married Dianne Setters on June 19, 1971 at First Presbyterian Church in Phoenix, ArizonaKen began working at Road Machinery Co. in Phoenix when he separated from the army. In 1973 he began working in the shipping department at Messenger Graphics. Over the years, he worked his way up taking an apprenticeship in the bindery and eventually becoming supervisor. In 1992, Messenger's began bankruptcy proceedings and Ken was recruited by Quebecor Printing in Dallas, Texas. The family moved to Lewisville, TX. Ken worked at Quebecor 2 years when he became disabled.After serving in the Army, Ken became a little league coach for his nephew's team. Ken was very active in his children's lives. He was a board member and scoutmaster of Cub Scout Pack 66 Phoenix. Ken began coaching Buddy baseball while in Lewisville and that lead to coaching Special Olympics. Ken coached soccer, softball and basketball, served as a board member on the LISD Special Olympics group, served on the Special Olympics Golf Tournament committee and was instrumental in establishing a basketball tournament for Special Olympics. Ken also helped train 6 young people to become coaches and was well liked by parents and coaches of several delegations. Ken was a lifetime member of the VFW. Ken also enjoyed collecting and taking pictures of military aircraft. Traveling was also one of Ken's loves and he & his wife enjoyed hiking and camping out in the ghost towns of the Bradshaw mountains and going rock hunting with friends. Ken was a family man who loved his wife, his children, his family, friends, and so many of the Special Olympic athletes who entered his life. As his brother-in-law put it, Ken Jones was a good man!Ken is survived by his wife Dianne and sons David and Derrick of Wilsonville, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents Rollo and Louise Jones and his brother Charles Jones.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please make a donation to your local Special Olympics group or do volunteer work for your favorite group.
