Obituary

Dearest family and friends,

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our beloved Kathy Lynne (Bell) Powers. She left us after a long and courageous battle with her health, but throughout it all, she never lost her gentle spirit and her incredible smile.

Kathy was born on November 23, 1956, and grew up in the Pacific Northwest. She graduated from Park Rose Senior High School (1975). She received her BS in X-Ray from OIT in Klamath Falls. She had a truly brilliant mind—her siblings and husband always said she was "spooky smart"—and her passions were as wide-ranging as her intelligence. She was a natural gymnast, dancer, and musician who cherished her time with family above all else.

She found her husband in Warren Lewis Powers, and they were married on July 22, 1978. Their life together was a great adventure, taking them to 19 different locations over 20 (work) years.

Many of you know that Kathy faced profound health challenges. She was diagnosed with lupus at17 and faced numerous heart complications, yet she met every obstacle with grace and a quiet, unyielding strength. Through countless hospital visits, she taught us all what it meant to persevere without complaint. After suffering eight strokes, five of which were significant, the last of three major strokes in 2015 left her without a functioning speech center. It took her just over two years to rebuild her vocabulary to the degree that many meeting her these past few years may not have even noticed the devastating stroke had happened. Her love for others was always greater than her concern for herself. She had a soft spot for all creatures, especially "the kitties and other strays" for which she so lovingly cared.

Kathy is now at peace, joining our dear parents, William Thomas and Pearl Lorain Bell, and our nephew, Jason Bell, who preceded her in death. She leaves behind her devoted husband Warren and her siblings, Harry Eugene (and Suzanne), Lorrie Jeanine, and Jon Fredrick (and Olya) Bell, along with her niece, Melissa Bell.

There will be no formal service as her ashes will be placed at Willamette National Cemetery. If you wish to honor her memory, we know she would be so touched by a donation to the Woodburn Vet Clinic, a place that helped her care for so many of her beloved animals.
