Joshua Eliga Fowler, 31, of Newberg, Oregon passed away September 22nd, 2014. He was born on March 7th, 1983 in Portland, Oregon, the son of Fred A. Fowler and Lynlee Golding Fowler. He attended Wilsonville schools through middle school and graduated from Shoreline Masters Academy, a homeschool program, in 2002. He then went on to Portland Community College to study Aviation where he accomplished his Commercial Pilot License. He graduated from Epicodus in the first part of June, 2014, where he became skilled in web development. He was employed as a Ruby Developer at CrowdCompass in Portland.
Josh's biggest passion in life was fencing. He dedicated the last ten years of his life to the sport. He coached fencing at Northwest Fencing Center, Portland State University, Clark Community College, and Salem Fencing Club. Josh coached people of all ages, but particularly enjoyed coaching youth. He received the title of Prevot of Epee from the United States Fencing Coaches Association. He was the 2011 Pacific Northwest Sectional Champion in Individual Men's Epee. In 2012, he competed on the Men's Epee Senior Team at Nationals in Anaheim, California, where they took first place.
Josh is survived by his mother, Lynlee Fowler-Davenport and step-father, Jeffrey Davenport of Newberg, his sister Crystal Schrader of Tualatin, his sister Chanel South of Breckenridge, Colorado, and his step-brother Dustin Davenport of Milwaukie. He also leaves his maternal grandparents, Everett and Violet Golding of Newberg, and his paternal grandfather, Vern Fowler of Sacramento, California. Josh was preceded in death by his father Fred A. Fowler and his paternal grandmother Shirley Fowler.
Memorial service will be held Thursday, October 2nd, 2014 at 11 AM at Cornwell Colonial Chapel in Wilsonville. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to Salem Fencing Club where they have set up a Josh Fowler memorial fund. Please contact Jill Summers at (503)375-9209 or
