Obituary

Joseph Heck, 92 Joseph ("Jose" for those close to him) Heck, 92, passed away Veteran's Day, November 11, 2013 at The Springs at The Wilsonville Assisted Living in Wilsonville, Oregon from complications associated with Alzheimers disease.Joe was born December 13, 1920 to Adolph and Katherine (Weber) Heck in Ethan, South Dakota, the 4th of 7 children. He graduated from Ethan High School in 1939. Joe served in the Civilian Conservation Corp after graduation. He met his beautiful bride, Helen Marie Heck, on a blind date and after a yearlong courtship, married her.Joe worked for JC Penney, then joined the US Navy during World War II. He spent time with the Pacific and North Atlantic Fleet and was discharged after the war was over in 1945. Joe and Helen returned to Sunnyside, Washington where he worked for Carnation Company. He worked for Carnation for 37 years. Joe loved to play cards, go fishing, and travel with Helen and his friends and family in their trailer. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, an usher at St. Joseph's church and Holy Redeemer parish in Vancouver, WA, among other organizations.Joe is survived by his wife of 71 years, Helen; daughters Mary Kay Wey (Bob), JoAnn Bell (Dennis); sons Jim Heck, and Dan Heck (Nancy); grandchildren Stephanie Gano, Christopher Bell, Jeff Wey, Jason Wey, Rachel Heck, Zak Heck, Brandon Heck, and Kyle Heck; brother Alvin Heck, and sister Rosemary Phillips.He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Victor, Herbert, Adolph and John.Viewing will be 3PM to 6PM with a Rosary at 5PM Friday November 15th, 2013 at Cornwell Funeral Home in Wilsonville, Oregon. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at St. Cyril Catholic Church in Wilsonville, Oregon at 10:30 am. Burial will follow on Tuesday at 1PM at Willamette National Cemetery in Southeast Portland. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association ( www.alz.org ).
