Obituary

"Ken" Trevino (Jose Kenneth Trevino III), 55, from Woodburn, Oregon, passed away on February 19, 2025, surrounded by loving family.

Ken was born on May 2, 1969, in Portland Oregon. He lived in Aurora with parents Jose Trevino, Jr and Dakota Sangretta-Whitecloud (Rose Mary Ames) until age 3. He then lived with his father and sisters through 7th grade in Aurora and Canby, attending 91 School (Whiskey Hill) and Canby schools. Later in 8th grade and during high school, he lived with his mom, and lived in other towns such as West Linn, Gladstone, Portland, and Roseburg. He graduated from Roseburg High School in 1987, and then attended some college at Umpqua Community College also in Roseburg. In Southern Oregon, he attended pow wows, drummed and danced; his favorite being the "Crow-Hop." He worked at the local Veteran's Administration and lived independently after high school.

After moving back to the Willamette Valley, Ken continued to work hard, and was very successful in his career in retail sales, customer service and retail management, receiving promotions and becoming a trainer. Professionally, he worked hard during the day, going in when called on days off, and personally, he enjoyed off time, going out after work to socialize. He maintained friendships from those early career days throughout his life. He pivoted in careers to work for the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, where he was also an enrolled tribal member, and worked for the Tribe for 21 years in finance/ administration/ tribal government until his passing. Ken valued self-reliance and bought his own home at age 34, in Woodburn, and remained a member of that community.

As a young person, Ken was known for his fun-loving, playful, and adventurous spirit, as well as being a reliable and dependable friend. He enjoyed dancing, hanging out, meeting up for cocktails and singing karaoke with sister Cynthia and other friends. He was a loving, loyal and protective brother. He enjoyed travelling, especially to Las Vegas and Hawaii. Ken also loved cooking. He enjoyed trying new recipes and eating authentic and homemade Mexican food, which reminded him of childhood. Ken was a stylish and fashionable dresser and he liked to shop. He enjoyed plants, gardening, and home shows until health limitations made it difficult to continue those activities. Ken shared a special relationship from childhood to adulthood with aunt Virginia Gibson, and she assisted him with housekeeping when needed, and uncle Heriberto "Eddy" Gomez, who assisted with yardwork.

Ken had his share of tragedy, losing close friends during the 1980s and 1990's, losing Indian family and mentors, suffering injuries, surviving as a victim of crime, and health issues. However, none of those compared to the loss of his beloved black labrador Yukon J. Cornelius, sister Cynthia L. Trevino Jr-Williams, and later mom Dakota R. Sangretta-Whitecloud, who all preceded him in death.

Ken is survived by his father Jose Trevino, Jr. (Darlene), sister Maria Christina Trevino-Jungers (Robert), and brother Isaiah Ryan Morris, Aunt Virginia Gibson ("Eddy"), as well as step-siblings, niece and nephews, many friends, and distant relatives.
