Obituary

Jose Ines Cazares

January 21, 1952 – March 10, 2026

Jose Ines Cazares, 74, passed away on March 10, 2026, in Brooks, Oregon, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply.

Jose was born on January 21, 1952, in Doctor Arroyo, Nuevo León, Mexico, to Francisco Cazares and Eustacia Beltran.

In his teenage years, he came to the United States with his parents. As he grew into adulthood, he built a life rooted in hard work, perseverance, and devotion to family. He eventually settled in Oregon, where he would spend the rest of his life and raise his family.

On December 12, 1979, he married Maria Elena Estrada, and together they built the family that became the center of his world.

Jose was known for his strong work ethic and determination to provide for those he loved. Over the years he worked in spec pipe, later in several paper mills, and spent a short period attending college. He later worked in excavation, and for a time started and operated his own landscape maintenance company.

Throughout the years Jose lived in several communities in Oregon. During the 1970s and early 1980s he lived in the Salem–Brooks area, later moving to Hubbard in the mid-1980s, then to Canby in the late 1980s, before eventually returning to Brooks, where he spent his final years.

Jose had a passion for life and rarely sat still. He loved the farm life whether it was gardening, raising animals, yard maintenance or building something new, and repairing what needed fixing. His talents were endless, he ran new water or electrical lines. He especially loved operating his John Deere and excavator, moving earth and hauling heavy items around. He taught his grandchildren so many life lessons running a farm efficiently.

Another one of Jose’s passions was wrestling. He was a coach for 14 years at North Marion and Canby Wrestling. He to this day has his coaches award displayed proudly. After he retired from coaching he loved supporting his grandchildren at their wrestling meets, offering advice, encouragement, and coaching them the way only a proud grandfather could.

He also loved music, especially late at night with the volume turned up as loud as it could go. Whether anyone was sleeping or not didn’t matter much—Jose believed music was meant to be enjoyed.

Family gatherings were some of his favorite moments. Jose loved family barbecues, sitting back with a plate of carne asada, a cold brewski, and watching everyone talk, laugh, play games, and simply enjoy being together.

Jose had a deep appreciation for the creativity and talents of his children. While he did not paint or draw himself, he loved sitting with them as they worked on their art, admired their drawings and paintings, and encouraged them to keep pursuing whatever passions they had in life. He was always there to listen, offer encouragement, and remind them to keep going.

Some of the lessons he shared were simple but powerful: “If you’re going to do something, do it right.” “Take what you want from life and leave the rest behind.”

Family meant everything to him.

He is survived by his children:

Rose Rojas (53)

Jose Inez Cazares (47)

Criselda Daly (46)

Benito Cazares (43)

Pebbles Cazares (41)

He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren:

Jacob Rico Daly (28)

Cobie Michael Daly (21)

Jordyn Mateo Cazares (19)

Juliana Marie Cazares (18)

Romeo Benencio Daly (18)

Paolo Andres Rojas (15)

Lily Beth Cazares (10)

Achilles D’Carlo Castaneda (10)

Della Mae Cazares (8)

Cairo Kruz Castaneda (5)

Jose was one of 12 children. His siblings include: Nico, Herman, Refugio, Pancho, Delfino, Noelia, Chelo, Linda, Chita, Adella, and Fabian.

Jose will be remembered as a man who never stopped moving, never stopped building, and never stopped caring for the people around him. Whether he was fixing something that was broken, turning up the music late at night, cheering at a wrestling match, or standing by the grill with family gathered around, he lived life in a way that filled every moment with energy, laughter, and love.

The things Jose built in life were not just gardens, barns, or businesses. The greatest thing he built was his family. And that legacy—rooted in hard work, encouragement, and love—will continue to grow for generations to come.
