John Anderson Van Lieu

January 19, 1934 – August 21, 2016

Woodburn, OR – John was born in Warrensburg, MO to James John Van Lieu and Anna LaRue Shrock. The family migrated to the West Coast and settled in Hubbard, OR.

After graduating from North Marion High School in 1952, he joined the Air Force. He was stationed in Anchorage, AK until 1956, during which time he married Anita Louise Paulson from Woodburn, OR.

After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, John and Anita settled in Woodburn, OR where they raised 4 children.

In 1960, he became a volunteer firefighter and in 1969 he was hired on full-time by the Woodburn Fire Department. He retired in 1992 after 32 years of service.

After retirement he was able to devote more time to his passions in life, playing golf and working on rebuilding his 1970 Ford pickup.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Van Lieu and Anna Shrock and son, Douglas John Van Lieu.

John is survived by his wife, Karen Van Lieu; daughter, Carrie McVey; sons, David (Regina) and Mark (Robyn) Van Lieu; 3 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held at 10 AM Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Simon-Cornwell Colonial Chapel, 390 N. 2nd St, Woodburn, OR 97071. Graveside service to follow at Belle Passi Cemetary, 997 Belle Passi Rd NE, Woodburn, OR 97071.
