John Hammack, 86, died peacefully on Nov 21, 2022, in Keizer, OR.

John was born in Salem, OR to Don and Ella Hammack. He was the youngest of three boys. He grew up on a farm in Mission Bottom in the Salem area. His family moved to the Albany area in his high school years where he graduated from Albany High School in 1954. In 1958 he married Mary Elizabeth Carda and had three children, Barb, Brian and Linda. After high school graduation he began working at US Bank and attended Oregon State University. He graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Most of his career was spent in the banking business but he did take a break from banking from 1970-77 to build, own and operate the Dairy Queen in Woodburn, OR. He served in the Oregon National Guard, volunteer in Police Officer in Woodburn, volunteer Fireman in Myrtle Point, was a lifetime member of the Elks Club, member of the Kiwanis Club, Chamber of Commerce and Red Cross.

He lived in many towns in Oregon but his favorite was in Woodburn on Boones Ferry road where he had 5 acres to raise cows, sheep and rabbits. He also had a big garden. He had an immense love for animals. And animals knew he did because any dog or cat would come right to him for some love.

He enjoyed watching the Beavers play any sports. He and his wife also had the opportunity to travel to Europe, take cruises and visit his favorite Hawaii many times. Later in life he enjoyed wood carving, gardening and playing Bingo. His love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was great and always they brought him lots of smiles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Ella, his brothers, Bob and Ron, and his granddaughters, Grace and Natalie.

He is survived by his wife Mary, daughters, Barb (Mike) and Linda, and his son, Brian (Christa). He has 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

His service will be Dec 1st at 10:30am at St Edwards in Keizer, OR with a reception following the service.
