Jean MacKay Young

Jean MacKay Young, 98, of Lake Oswego died peacefully Dec. 4, 2014. Daughter of Harry and Maud MacKay of Portland, Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Harry A. Young. She is survived by son Roderick Young and wife Charlotte of Palo Alto, Calif., son Thomas Young and wife Julie of Battle Ground, Wash., and daughter Tamara Young Lawrence of Lake Oswego. She is also survived by five grandsons, Scott, Chris, and Graham Young, and Ben and Adam Elkin, plus four beloved great grandchildren. A true people person, Jean made friends wherever she went.

Jean spent her early years in Portland where she attended Roosevelt High School, serving as their Rose Festival Princess in 1933. She also attended Oregon State College. The family lived in Portland, Springfield, and Madras before moving to Lake Oswego in 1959. Jean worked at Lewis & Clark College, where she is remembered fondly by the many students she helped. She enjoyed golf, bridge, and rug hooking into her later years. Jean was an active member of Lake Grove Presbyterian Church and will be greatly missed by her extended family and many friends.

Jean's family is grateful to the staff at The Springs at Carman Oaks for their exceptional care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to House Call Providers of Portland or the Lake Grove Presbyterian Church Sanctuary Choir or Deacon's Pantry funds. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 12 at Lake Grove Presbyterian Church, 4040 Sunset Drive, Lake Oswego, Ore. 97035.
