Jean Lorraine Swenson Baird

Jean L. Baird of Woodburn, died Wednesday, June 1 at Cascade Park in Woodburn at the age of 99. Mrs. Baird was born in St. Thomas, North Dakota on March 2, 1917, the first of three daughters born to Leonard and Jennie Swenson. She graduated with honors from St. Thomas High School and received a scholarship to Univ. of North Dakota. She married Layman D. Baird in 1934. In 1947, the family moved to Woodburn where she has resided for the past 69 years.

She worked for the Woodburn Veterinary Clinic for over 25 years retiring in 1980. She was active in the Order of the Eastern Star for many decades in North Dakota and Woodburn. She was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church and attended Immanuel Lutheran Church in Woodburn since 1947 and a member of the Woodburn Women's Golf Club for many years. Her husband Layman preceded her in death in 1971. She was a George Street resident from 1947 until 1992, when she moved to the Woodburn Senior Estates and then to Cascade Park Retirement Center in 2010.

Funeral services will be Monday, 1 P.M., June 6, 2016 in the chapel of Simon-Cornwell Colonial Chapel in Woodburn. Vault interment will be in Belle Passi Cemetery.

Survivors include her sons: L. Duane. Baird (Arlene)of Los Angeles and Woodburn; J. Truman Baird (Linda) of Eugene and Robert W. Baird (Sharon) of Wilsonville; 6 grandchildren 9 great grandchildren; sister Alice Gantt of Hendersonville, N.C., and several nieces and nephews.
