James Edward "Jim" Bowman
October 21, 1932 - December 21, 2022
James Edward "Jim" Bowman passed away on December 21, 2022 from complications related to dementia. James was born on October 21, 1932 in Garfield, Arkansas and graduated from Foraker High School in Oklahoma. He earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education from Oklahoma State University, then served in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany. After his stint in the army he returned to school and earned a master's degree from Central State College in Oklahoma, where he met the love of his life, Marrietta "Mickie" Widener. They were married on June 14, 1958, and stayed happily married and devoted to each other for their remaining 64 years. They lived a wonderful life together on their small farm outside of Hubbard for 49 years while raising their five sons.
James was a diehard North Marion Husky through and through. From 1959-2010 he taught science and driver's training classes; was athletic director; and coached track, cross country and basketball. His 51 years of service is the longest tenure in the high school's history. On basketball game nights you could find him standing just inside the doors of the high school gym, rooting for his beloved Huskies and enjoying visits with his many friends, students and colleagues.
James was a devoted family man who especially loved bow hunting, steelhead fishing, working around his farm and attending the special events of the people he loved. He always made time to visit with anyone who would call or stop by.
James was preceded in death by his wife Marrietta; parents Roy and Nettie Bowman; brother Gene Bowman; sister Edna Bowman; and his son William Jay "Bill" Bowman. He is survived by sons Larry, Jeff, Bruce and Carl; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Everyone who wants to celebrate and remember Jim Bowman is welcome and invited to his celebration of life on Saturday, February 25 from 1:00-5:00 at the Wooden Shoe Wine Room, located at 3384 South Meridian Road Woodburn, OR 97071.
