Howard James Zurlinden died at the age of 81 on Jan 16, 2015 .
Howard was born Feb. 4, 1933 along with his twin Harold at Hubbard, Oregon
to William and Mazie (Wise) Zurlinden. His family moved to rural Woodburn to
a small farm where he grew up. He attended Johnson School, grade 1-8
and graduated from Woodburn High School in 1951.
Howard married Laurel Eskelsen Sept. 12, 1953 at the Christian Church in Woodburn,
where they lived their entire 61 years of marriage. They had 2 children Jimmy and Carol.
Carol has 2 children Jason and Nelie who gave them 6 great granchildren; James, Kelli, Katie, Ashley, Jasmine and Ivy. Howard was very proud of each one and enjoyed many happy times with his family. The children always made his eyes light up.
Howard worked as a timber faller for several years and during that time built 4 homes in Woodburn settling in West Woodburn. He retired from General Foods/ Agripac working for them as a warehouseman for 20 years.
Howard's hobby was growing roses. He had over a hundred plants that he devoted a lot of time caring for them. Howard enjoyed his family gatherings, hunting fishing , trips to the mountains
and the Oregon beaches before health issues kept him close to home. Howard will be greatly missed by all.
Howard was preceded in death by his son Jimmy , father Bill, twin brother Harold, brother Edward and sister's Velma and Ruby.
Visitation will be Wed. Jan 21, 2015 from 1-5 PM at Simon-Cornwell Colonial Chapel- Woodburn. Funeral service Thurs. Jan. 22, 2015 at 2 PM at the funeral home.
Interment to follow at Belle Passi Cemetery- Woodburn.
