Obituary

Gerald Duane Knobel was born on 07.09.36 in Shoshone, Idaho and passed away on 09.23.14 after a lengthy, valiant struggle with Alzheimer's.
Gerry's parents were Howard John Wesley Knobel and Ida Naoma Knobel of Pocatello, Idaho who proceeded him in death in 1994 and 2002, respectively.
He graduated from Sparks High School in Nevada in 1954 and married his high school sweetheart Loretta Young on 02.06.55. Three children followed; Penni in 1956, John in 1960, and Paul in 1963.
A dedicated Sherwin-Williams employee for over 23 years, Gerry never lost his love for the painting industry even while exploring other options later in his career. During one of these exploratory phases, he was talented enough to turn his wood working hobby into a successful home business: creating and selling self-designed bird feeders and houses throughout the Portland area.
Other hobbies and activities he enjoyed included wood carving, painting, camping, fishing, gardening, and touring the U.S. in the motorhome. And, we best not forget, playing Nuts and sharing tequila with some truly amazing lifelong friends. Never one to let a day go by without singing lyrics from his favorite old songs, ones the kids and grandkids are sure to remember, he also enjoyed listening to country western music and reading each and every novel from his favorite author Louis L'Amour.
Gerry is survived by his spouse of 59 years Loretta, daughter Penni and her husband Ted, son John, son Paul and his wife Karyn, sister Nancy and her husband Ken, and brother-in-law Ted. Family also includes grandchildren; Brandon and his wife Christy, Ben and his wife Kelsey, Cameron, Lizzy, Hana, William, and great-grandchildren Josie, Alaina, Isabela and Sofia.
The family suggests any donations be contributed to Serenity Hospice Helping Hands (SerenityHospice.Org) or the Cat Adoption Team (CatAdoptionTeam.Org) in Sherwood, Oregon.
Cornwell Colonial Chapel is providing cremation services.
