George John Hauptman of Sublimity, Oregon died August 24, 2004. He was 88 years old. George was born July 6, 1916 in Portland, Oregon to George J. and Katherine Hauptman. He lived in the Brooks area most of his life. Fore a short while he lived in Alaska prior to spending 4 years in the Army, joining in 1942. He spent 4 years with the army of the 752nd tank battalion in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. On April 11, 1942 he married Mary Louise LeDoux at Fort Lewis, Washington. After the war he farmed, worked for Iola Tile and the Salem Armory. He and Mary Lou loved to travel. They spent time in Canada, Hawaii, Australia and many states. George enjoyed fishing and hunting with his 3 sons and loved gardening. All who knew him enjoyed his ""povendar"". George is survived by his son George and Lynette of Halfway, Oregon, Tom and Colleen of Maui, Hawaii, and Dan and Madeline of Port Townsend, Washington and 10 grandchildren.
