Gayle E. PostMarch 17, 1931 ~ November 11, 2013Gayle Edwin Post (82), son of Russell and Dorothy (Klinge) Post of Pasadena, California, passed away November 11, 2013, in Wilsonville, Oregon, following a brief illness. His wife, Carol, and daughter, Audrey, were by his side.Gayle was a 1949 graduate of South Pasadena- San Marino High School. He earned Bachelors of Science ('53) and Electrical Engineering ('58) degrees from Stanford University where he was a member of ROTC. He was an officer in the U.S. Navy 1953-56, serving in the Pacific aboard the USS Sussex.Gayle's professional life included careers in banking, residential development, commercial real estate, and he was founder and CEO of Shamrock Building Company with projects in Newport Beach and Pasadena. The Pasadena Star News once described him as the "White Knight of South Lake Avenue" for his efforts as Chairman of the South Lake Avenue Business Association and Chairman of the Parking District to improve and beautify the Avenue. His lifelong love of sailing began in Newport Harbor as a teenager, where eventually he became known for his navigation abilities. Gayle participated in many Trans-Pac and Mexico races as navigator, and competed against yachtsmen who have become life-long friends on his Rhodes 33 ""Therapy," and many other boats. A long time member of Balboa Yacht Club, Gayle skippered his Gary Mull-designed 6 metre ""Perspicacious""in Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, and Germany, and had a grand time crewing on Bruce Chandler's 5.5 in Cannes. Jim, Dave, Bobby, Brooks, Too Tall, Mark, Kim, Bill, Jimmy and so many others who crewed for and with him were all special friends. His second passion was building HO-gauge model railroad layouts, railroad cars, engines, and villages from scratch, in his homes in Pasadena, Corona del Mar, and Wilsonville, Oregon. Gayle was "the kid in the candy store" at the many model railroad conventions he visited throughout the country. With Jim and Mary Seals and wife Carol, great stories remain today of the adventures experienced while "delivering" the yacht "Baroness" from Newport Beach to Cabo San Lucas, where both couples discovered Club Cascadas--a favorite retreat for the next 25 years. There was the 1987 BYC trip to Perth to reclaim the America's Cup with many club friends; the canal cruise through Burgundy with Bill and Darlene Dotts; Berlin, Prague, Vienna, and then Dubai and Cairo with Bob and Deb Stevenson; treasured visits to "Seaforth" on Vancouver Island with Peter and Sharon Sabin, and many, many more fabulous experiences to celebrate with wonderful friends. He and Carol travelled to over 50 countries, initially while campaigning "Perspicacious," and subsequently aboard Crystal Cruises ships with his mother, Dorothy, and daughter, Audrey. He was a much loved son, husband, father, uncle, and friend. He is predeceased by his parents, his son Kenneth, and his brother Roger and sister-in-law Sally (Jones) Post of Carmel Valley. He is survived by his wife Carol of Wilsonville, Oregon, daughter Audrey Post of Tehachapi, California. Also, nieces Kim Watson of London, England; Shelley Claudel of Carmel Valley, Jennifer Post of Los Angeles, Stephanie Pollard of Sherman Oaks, and one nephew, Jonathan Isaacs of Irvine, California.Should any one wish to make a tribute in Gayle's name, he would have favored the Balboa Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program, Corona del Mar, California
