Obituary

Evelyn "Bedo" Frances Teel
Evelyn passed away on January 11, 2016 after a prolonged battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born on October 8, 1929 to parents Reid and Hattie Inghram of Lapwai and Lewiston, Idaho. Evelyn grew up in the Lewiston Idaho area. She and her siblings worked hard when they were young helping their mother Hattie run the general store in Lapwai on the Nez Pierce Indian Reservation. At one time, they lived above the store which operated the post office, telephone switchboard, a deli, and of course groceries.

Evelyn attended the University of Idaho and graduated from Ellensburg Teacher School. Evelyn taught primary school in Vancouver, Washington, Las Vegas, Nevada and Portland, Oregon. While teaching in Portland, she met Gene Teel on a blind date and they were married on June 24, 1961. Gene had a daughter from a previous marriage so Evelyn retired from teaching to raise a family.

On October 12, 1962, during the Columbus Day Storm, Evelyn gave birth to her first son James. According to Gene, getting Evelyn to the hospital during the storm was a "white knuckle drive". Due to the storm, trees were down blocking the roads and the power was out in most of the city. Because of the power outage, Evelyn had to walk up several flights of stairs at the hospital before giving birth to James. The storm was so strong; Evelyn and her newborn son had to stay at the hospital for over a week because there was no power at their Portland home.

In 1964 Gene was transferred to St. Paul, Minnesota to work at the 3M Center. Evelyn was expecting her second son who was due around Thanksgiving. On December first, while Gene was in Minnesota looking for a new home for his Family, Evelyn gave birth to her son Dave. This time the neighbor drove Evelyn to the Portland hospital.

While in Minnesota, Evelyn ran the house while Gene travelled for work. Even though cooking could be a challenge for her and her meals often required a variety of condiments, Evelyn managed to raise two healthy and active boys. In 1987 she and Gene moved from Minnesota back to Oregon when Gene retired. They settled in the Charbonneau community where Evelyn was an active member in the women's Golf Club, bridge club and served on many committees. She was very happy in Charbonneau. Evelyn worked hard and seldom complained all of her life. She was a good wife, a loving and caring mother, and she will be missed by friends and Family.

Evelyn is survived by her husband of 55 years, Gene Teel of Wilsonville, her stepdaughter Patricia of Beaverton, son Dave (Mary), grandson Daniel of Tigard and granddaughter Hailey of Minneapolis. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Bill Inghram, sister, Retha Rockey, and son, James Teel.

The family wishes to thank The Springs at Wilsonville and Serenity Hospice staff for their care and fine support. There will be a celebration of Evelyn's life on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Charbonneau Country Club Clubhouse, 32000 SW Charbonneau DR, Wilsonville, OR 97070 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 pm.
