Evelyn Carroll Crosby, 88, of Woodburn, Oregon, went to be with the Lord on March 28, 2015 in Mt Angel Oregon.
Visitation will be held on Friday April 3 from 1-4 pm at Cornwell Colonial Chapel, Woodburn, OR
Funeral service will be held at Gateway Community Church, 922 Hylo Rd S.E, Salem, Oregon on Saturday April 4 at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at 2:00 pm at Rest lawn Memorial Gardens, Salem, Oregon.
A Celebration dinner will be held at 3:30 at 1336 Quinn Rd. Woodburn, Oregon.
Evelyn was born in Hannah Alberta Canada to Bertha and Harry Hindman on September 10, 1926. At the age of 5, the family moved from Canada to Crawfordsville, Oregon where she lived in the family home, built next to the Crawfordville Bridge, on the banks of the Calapooia River. Evelyn spent her later school years in Lebanon and Sweethome prior to moving to Portland , Ore; where she met and married Glenn Carroll on September 5, 1943. Evelyn and Glenn had 10 children together. While raising the 10 children, Evelyn also consistently worked outside the home. In 1944, Evelyn worked her first job at Swan Island in the ship yard as a burner and was referred to as "Rosie the Riveter". She worked many other jobs including managing the family business, Carroll Hardwood Floors, prior to Glenn's death in 1992.
Evelyn loved music and dance and was actively involved in Willamette Squares, in Salem, Ore when she met and married Steve Crosby on March 1, 1997. Evelyn and Steve lived in Senior Estates, Woodburn, Oregon until his death in 2010.
While married to Steve, Evelyn enjoyed writing her life story, Flying her little 2 seater airplane, snow birding in Yuma Arizona, and traveling to China where she had her specially designed hand crafted rings made to sell through her own business, "Jewelry by Evelyn".
Evelyn enjoyed the last 18 months of her life at Providence Benedictine Nursing Center in Mt. Angel, Oregon; where she had the daily companionship of her family, her granddaughter April, and was surrounded by the loving staff and the many friends she made.
Evelyn is is preceded in death by her Son Bradley and is survived by her 4 brothers, 9 children, 19 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 10 great, great, grand children and 2 grand doggies. All of which were the love of her life; as she was to them.
