Elmer Wallace Goodwin, Jr.
1924-2015

Elmer Wallace Goodwin, Jr., 90, died peacefully under the care of Legacy Hopewell House Hospice on January 17, 2015. Elmer was born October 1, 1924, in Beloit, Iowa to Elmer Wallace Goodwin, Sr. and Ila Leota Anderson Goodwin.

Elmer moved to Coos County in 1936, living in Bandon and Fairview. After graduating from Coquille High School in 1942, he was drafted into the Navy in 1943. In 1945, he was assigned to the newly commissioned USS St. Paul and saw action in the South Pacific during WW II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He married his high school sweetheart, Lorraine Norris, on February 3, 1946, one month before his official discharge. In 1956, he went to work for the Coos County Highway Department and was a foreman for the bridge crew before retiring in 1983.

Elmer was a long time and very active member of the Coquille Christian Community Church in Coquille serving in a variety of ministries, including youth leader, deacon, and elder.

In 2013, Elmer and Lorraine moved to Wilsonville, Oregon to be near their daughter Denise Doty. Elmer is survived by his wife, Lorraine; daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Loren Doty of Wilsonville, OR; two granddaughters, Angela Doty of Springfield, OR and Deanna Doty of Beaverton, OR; and one sister, Frances Clark of Tualatin, OR. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda at age 3, two brothers, John Goodwin and Wendell Goodwin, and two sisters, Eva Goodwin and Ellen Goodwin.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held January 24, 2015, at 1:00 pm at Tualatin Hills Christian Church, 23050 SW Boones Ferry Road, Tualatin, OR 97062. Gifts in memory of Elmer may be given to the Camp Scholarship Fund of Tualatin Hills Christian Church.
