Dorothy Rose (Van Veen) Iverson
Dorothy passed away peacefully October 11, 2014 with her family by her side at the Hopewell House in Portland. She was born September 13, 1928 the sixth of eight children to Theodore and Doris (Habersetzer) Van Veen. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy and Lewis and Clark College.
On November 18, 1950 she married Ross Iverson and they bought a farm in Monitor Oregon, where together they raised six kids. Besides her work as a farm wife she also worked at various times as a nurse for Dr. Deagon of Woodburn and Dr. Van Veen of Stayton.
She was a 4H leader and president of the Ninety One School PTA. She served on the Silverton Hospital Board when it transitioned from a small local hospital to a region wide medical provider. She also was a member of the Canby Choral Singers and served many years as a precinct committee person.
Dorothy loved to travel and had many wonderful adventures all over the world. She traveled to six continents and would have made it to Antarctica if not for a last minute tour cancellation. She traveled through the Panama Canal and around Cape Horn, cruised on a small boat on the upper Amazon River. She rode on the QE 2 twice and flew on the Concord. She visited the Great Wall of China, the Taj Mahal, Machu Pichu, Sydney Opera House, St. Petersburg Square and so many other places too numerous to list. She met many interesting people on her travels many who became lifelong friends.
She liked the outdoors and walked and hiked every day, most often with a couple of dogs in tow. Animals loved her and she loved them especially puppies. The local vet often supplied her with dogs that needed a special home. She most loved besides her family, babies, puppies, and teddy bears.
Dorothy is survived by Ross her husband of 63 years. Her six children Steve (Denise), Karen Bever (Bob), Nels (Patti), Ken (Laura), Barb (Maryann), and Paul (Janet). She is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, two brothers and a sister and was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and a sister.
A celebration of her life will be held at Wooden Shoe Gardens Sunday October 19, 2014 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in her name to Thelma's Place in Canby Oregon,
